「同學」英文是 classmate，那「大學同學」英文是 college classmate 嗎？
幾天前，米小鹹其中一個學生跟我說到她「大學同學」的故事，並用了「college classmate」這個講法。
我瞬間就覺得怪怪的，「大學同學」英文應該無法照字面翻譯成 college classmate 才對。
然後我就突然想到，有些「同學」英文其實都無法直接用 classmate 耶！
所以我決定今天來幫你整理一下各種「同學」的英文說法，從「幼稚園同學」到「博士班同學」，我都會告訴你英文怎麼說，最後也會補充一下「同學會」、「校友」英文是什麼。

同學 英文？
「同學」的英文常會被翻譯成 classmate，這個字是由 class（班級）和 mate（同伴）組成的，指「跟你同一個班級、常跟你坐在同一個教室上課的學生」。
那要注意，在中文裡的「同學」、「老師」可以直接拿來稱呼對方，例如「欸，同學」、「老師，這部分我不太懂」，但在英文中可不能這樣用喔！
不能說「Hey, classmate」，只能說「Excuse me」，或直接叫對方的名字，像這樣「Hey, John」。
也不能說「Teacher, I don’t understand this part」，應該稱呼老師為某某先生或小姐，像這樣「Mr. Brown, I don’t understand this part」。
幼稚園同學 英文？
「幼稚園」英文是 kindergarten，所以「幼稚園同學」英文就是 kindergarten classmate 或 classmate from kindergarten。
另外補充一下，kindergarten 通常是給比較大的 5-6 歲小孩，若是要說給 2-4 歲小孩的「托兒所」，英文則是 preschool。
例句：
Steve was my kindergarten classmate, so I have known him for over 25 years.
（Steve 是我的幼稚園同學，所以我已經認識他超過 25 年了。）
小學同學 英文？
「小學」英文是 elementary school（美式）或 primary school（英式），所以「小學同學」英文就是 elementary school classmate 或 primary school classmate，另外也可以說 classmate from elementary school、classmate from primary school。
例句：
I thought Amy and Sara didn’t know each other, but it turned out that they were classmates from elementary school.
（我以為 Amy 和 Sara 互相不認識，但沒想到他們是小學同學。）
國中同學 英文？
「國中」英文在台灣常用 junior high school，但美國現在更常用 middle school，另外英式英文的「國中」說法是 secondary school。
所以「國中同學」英文可以說 junior high school classmate、middle school classmate、secondary school classmate，另外也可以說 classmate from junior high school、classmate from middle school、classmate from secondary school。
例句 :
Oh my God! That serial killer is my middle school classmate! He looked quite normal back then. How did he turn into such a psychopath?!
（我的天啊！那個連環殺人犯是我的國中同學！他以前看起來滿正常的。他怎麼會變成一個瘋子？！）

高中同學 英文？
「高中」英文在台灣常用 senior high school，但在很多歐美國家講 high school 即可，而「高中同學」英文常說 high school classmate 或 classmate from high school。
例句 :
He started up this company with one of his classmates from high school.
（他和他一個高中同學創立這間公司。）
另外米小鹹要補充一下，在美國或其他一些歐美國家，國中和高中的上課方式已經有點像我們大學要選課、到不同教室上課那樣，而非一群學生固定在同一個教室裡上課。

所以，對於國高中時認識的同學，他們可能會用 friend（朋友）或 schoolmate（同校同學）來形容，或者就解釋 We went to the same high school.（我們上同一所高中），不一定會用 classmate（同班同學）喔。
例句 :
I ran into a friend from high school at the nearby Starbucks yesterday.
（我昨天在附近的星巴克巧遇一個高中朋友。）
Most of my schoolmates from high school thought Kevin was attractive, but I didn’t.
（我大部分的高中同學都覺得 Kevin 很有魅力，但我不這麼覺得。）
大學同學 英文？
「大學」英文是 college 或 university，而「大學同學」英文可以說 college mate、university mate，或者 college friend、university friend、friend from college、friend from university。
若要表示修同一個 course（課程、學程）的同學，也可以稱他為 coursemate。
總之，大學以上就比較少用到 classmate 這個字囉！
例句 :
You and my younger brother are friends from college?! What a small world!
（你和我弟弟是大學的朋友？！這世界也太小了吧！）
I’m going out for a drink with a coursemate later.
（我待會要跟一個同學去喝杯酒。）
碩士班同學 英文？
「碩士班同學」英文可以是 master’s program coursemate、coursemate from the master’s program，其中，master’s program 就是「碩士學位的課程」的意思。
例句 :
One of my master’s program coursemates is getting married next month.
（我其中一個碩士班同學下個月要結婚了。）
博士班同學 英文？
「博士班同學」英文常說 research fellow，research 是「研究」，而 fellow 有「夥伴、同伴」或「研究員」的意思。
若要更正式一點也可以說 research associate，associate 在這裡是名詞「夥伴、同伴」。
例句 :
Of all my research fellows, Sean is the best and has an excellent opportunity to teach at this university.
（在我所有的博士班同學中，Sean 是最厲害的，而且很有機會在這間大學教書。）
同學會 英文？
通常會用到 reunion（團聚）這個字喔，例如「國小同學會」elementary school reunion、「國中同學會」middle school reunion、「高中同學會」high school reunion、「大學同學會」college reunion。
例句 :
I’m having a high school reunion next Saturday. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone!
（我下個星期六有高中同學會。我好期待看到大家！）
注意，若要說有「碩士班同學會」，通常就說 I’m having a reunion with my master’s program coursemates，比較少聽到「master’s program reunion」。
舉一反三，若要說有「博士班同學會」，就可以說 I’m having a reunion with my research fellows.
另外，reunion 聽起來有點正式，感覺有人專門在籌畫整個活動。
如果只是一般的小聚會，用 get-together 或 gathering 就可以囉，像這樣 :
I’m having a get-together / gathering with some of my middle school classmates tomorrow.
（我明天要和幾個國中同學聚會。）
校友 英文？
校友通常會用 alumni 這個字，注意這個字是複數喔，它的單數形式很少用。
例句 :
I don’t know him very well. I just know that he is part of my high school alumni.
（我不太認識他。我只知道他是我高中的校友。）
Their CEO is quite famous among our college alumni.
（他們的 CEO 在我們大學校友間還滿有名的。）
